What is Man?

Psalms 8:3-4KJV “3When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?”

There is a beautiful song, made famous by Chris Tomlin and written by Laura Story, it is called “Indescribable”. The first verse and refrain read:
From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation revealing Your majesty
From the colours of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

The moon and stars are ‘ordained’ by God. The Hebrew word kûn means to set in place, or established. “When we think of the numberless myriads of stars, of the vast distances in the universe, and of the power that holds the planets in orbit with mathematical precision, it boggles the mind.” (Believer’s Bible Commentary, William MacDonald)
