What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of relaxed conversations where you can explore life, faith and the Christian message in a friendly and informal setting.

Each week gives you the opportunity to meet people, explore a different question and talk openly about what you think.

You don’t need to know the Bible. You don’t need to call yourself a Christian. And you certainly don’t need to have all the answers.

Come, listen, ask questions, share your perspective — or simply see what you think.

What happens at Alpha?

It’s simple.

Every Alpha evening is built around three things: connecting with people, exploring a question and having space to talk.

Connect

Arrive, settle in and spend time with people in a friendly and relaxed environment. Alpha is about conversation and connection, not sitting in a classroom.

Come as you are.

Explore

Each week introduces a different question about life and the Christian faith through an engaging Alpha episode designed to get you thinking.

Explore at your own pace.

Talk

This is your chance to say what you think, ask questions, hear different perspectives — or simply listen. There is no pressure to agree or to speak.

Your questions are welcome.
No question is too simple or too difficult. You can contribute as much — or as little — as you want.

You don’t have to arrive knowing what you believe. Each Alpha session gives you another opportunity to listen, reflect, ask questions and hear what other people think.

No pressure to have the answers Alpha is about exploring faith, not pretending you have it all figured out.
You can begin with just the first evening. Come along on 29 September, experience Alpha for yourself and then decide whether you would like to continue the journey.

Alpha is for anyone who is curious. You don’t have to be a churchgoer, know the Bible or have worked out what you believe.

You’re curious about Christianity but aren’t sure what you believe.
You have questions about God, Jesus, faith or the meaning of life.
You used to attend church but haven’t been for a long time.
Life has made you start thinking about some bigger questions.
Someone has invited you and you simply want to find out what Alpha is all about.
You don’t need to have faith to come to Alpha. Bring your questions, your doubts, your experiences and your curiosity. There’s no need to pretend.
